END CHILD POVERTY IN AUSTRALIA

Cost of living, inflation, soaring interest rates and housing crisis has created a tinder box for families already experiencing poverty.

For many children, they have no choice or voice about their circumstances.

This is despite having parents trying to do their very best.

In Australia, there is no national approach to ending child poverty. And we don’t know the true extent of children living in poverty, because we don’t measure it.

We are calling on the Federal Government to legislate to end child poverty in Australia.

Make children a political and policy priority.

You can help us make a positive impact on children's lives. It's time for us all to end child poverty in Australia.

A child who lives in poverty is 3.3 times as likely to live in poverty as an adult.

Why do we need legislation?

We need a national measure and definition so we can end the scarring impact of child poverty. Legislating on child poverty would measure, inform, and transparently report real-time statistics about child poverty so we as a whole community can take action and target services where and when children need them.

Reporting to Parliament every year, governments can provide transparency to the community about the extent of child poverty. When considering initiatives in the Budget, Governments of all levels could then give greater focus to the wellbeing of children in Australia.

In Australia, there is no commitment to end child poverty. We need a national approach to ending child poverty.
